Victoria

A small sample of some inspiring gardens outside Melbourne, from the diverse and exciting range of private gardens opening in summer.

Opening Details

16 & 17 January

Paxos - 66 East St, Daylesford. A Mediterranean feel pervades a rambling garden surrounding a straw bale house. Large old liquidambar and bay trees anchor hardy plantings of shrubs and perennials, punctuated by pencil pines.

23 & 24 January

Wilgaree - 31 Russell Cres, Sorrento (parking in Webster St). Natives and sympathetic exotics fill beds and drape well-designed retaining walls flanking paths in the steeply sloping section of thriving coastal garden. Elsewhere, feature trees punctuate rolling lawns.

30 & 31 January

Charlham Cottage - 33 Bay Rd, Mount Martha. Clever design brings together seasonal flowers and produce in a series of innovative raised circular garden beds. Perimeter fruit trees are underplanted with delphiniums, dahlias, evening primrose and other perennials.
